Mayor Goff to attend Waitangi@Waititi 2017

Phil Goff will attend the Waitangi celebrations at Hoani Waititi Marae – continuing the support from the Auckland mayor and council for the west Auckland event.

Goff, who won the mayoralty in 2016 will join local MPs and community leaders among the invited guests for the celebrations.

Whānau Waipareira has again lined up the best New Zealand talent, along with UK band Black Slate, for the February 6, 2017 concert.

Waipareira Chair Raymond Hall said this year’s talent was again top notch.

Alongside headliners Black Slate, Katchafire and Aaradhana, are The Royal Family Dance crew, Kings. Moana & The Tribe, Rob Ruha, Ray Bishop, ABBIE, Maaka, IHI and the Freshman’s Dance Crew, supporting the fun-filled kaupapa.

“We have looked to cater musically for our youth, parents and kaumatua,” Raymond said.

“It’s going to be an incredible day – as the previous three have been at Hoani Waititi Marae.

Raymond also acknowledged support from The Trusts Community Foundation, Ministry of Culture & Heritage, the Whau/Waitakere and Henderson-Massey Local Boards.

This is the 4th year Waipareira has delivered this FREE concert to the west Auckland community, that has attracted almost 30,000 to the Hoani Waititi Marae.

Raymond said Waitangi@Waititi was the No 1 event in Tamaki Makaurau and whānau were coming from far and wide to enjoy the music, their family and the vibe.

There will be kai stalls, a safe and secure free kid’s entertainment area, information stalls and free water and watermelon stations.

“This is a great event to bring the kids as well as Nan and pop along to,” Raymond said.

Waitangi@Waititi is a smoke free, alcohol free, drug free, violence free event. Powhiri starts at 9am and the main stage entertainment starts at 10am.
