Taupo Turns It On for Sold Out Taupo Summer Concert
Media Release Saturday 28 January 2017
After a 16,000 strong sell-out
crowd in the snow-capped mountains of Queenstown last
weekend, the annual Summer Concert Tour today moved onto its
next sold out show when 15,000 fans descended on Taupo
Amphitheatre for the 6th year of the Taupo Summer Concert
today.
Warm and sunny summer conditions greeted international acts ICEHOUSE, Alan Parsons Live Project & Bonnie Tyler as they played the second of three shows in the tour, following a unique chance yesterday to get up close to the artists when they did a public signing session at My Music Taupo.
Headlining
todays concert, legendary Aussie rockers
ICEHOUSE, headed by Iva Davies, are
celebrating their 40th anniversary and will play hit after
hit song including their name sake
“Icehouse”, plus what are sure
to be favourites with the crowd “Can’t Help
Myself, We Can Get Together, Hey Little Girl, Electric Blue,
& Great Southern
Land”.
Providing
the opportunity for local New Zealand artists to perform to
audiences of this scale, organisers this year offered the
opening sets of the day to Paul Foulds who were followed by
Jam Dr as concert goers set themselves up for the day with
their rugs, chilly bins and sunscreen.
With the picturesque back drop of the Waikato River in the background, Bonnie Tyler took to the stage at 1pm and again had the front of stage people dancing along to her massive hits, “Total Eclipse Of The Heart, It’s A Heartache and Holding Out For A Hero”, as well as some great renditions of other artists songs including Tina Turner and The Bee Gees.
Alan Parsons Live Project,
featuring Alan Parsons himself, along with lead
singer PJ Olsson, and Tood Cooper on saxophone, played
mid-afternoon taking people back to the 70’s with the
likes of “Eye In The Sky, Games People Play, Damned If
I Do, Dr. Tarr and Professor
Fether”.
Amanda Calvert, CEO of
Greenstone Entertainment comments, “Two Saturday’s and
two sell-out shows, we can’t thank all the fans enough for
coming along to support these fantastic artists who make the
long journey to New Zealand to share their first class
talent with us all. We now move onto the final show of the
tour in the amazing Whitianga. There will be limited tickets
available at the gate for $99 but you’ll need to be quick
as we expect this to sell out as
well.”
