Livestream to broadcast Championships to the World

Livestream to broadcast Championships to the World

1 February - For immediate release

The 2017 World Shearing and Woolhandling Championships is truly an international event with 32 countries from all over the globe descending on Invercargill from next Wednesday to vie for world titles.

The 40th anniversary championships will make history as the first instance the event has been hosted in New Zealand’s South Island and includes a record number of participating countries, making it the largest Championship of all time.

So, it is only fitting that the world will be watching.

Every minute of the 2017 World Championships will be streamed live via the event website (www.worldshearingchamps.com) as well as via broadcast partner Maori Television (www.maoritelevision.com).

Organising Committee chairman Tom Wilson said the event had contracted Christchurch-based production company Kinetic Media to deliver the live-stream production, along with an hour-long television special that will screen in New Zealand on Maori Television and internationally following the event.

“You won’t beat the atmosphere that we’ll have at ILT Stadium Southland, but for those around the country and the world who can’t make it to Invercargill we wanted to make sure we could capture the event in all its glory,” he said.

“We are fortunate to be hosting the event in a world-class venue at ILT Stadium Southland which will look amazing on screen and we want to tell as many stories about the competitors, the region and the personalities behind the sport and, of course, get as close to the action on stage as possible,” Wilson said.

The live-streaming service which will also include a daily highlights package online, will commence with the opening session of the World Championships from 11:00am next Wednesday (8 February) and continue across all sessions, culminating with the World Championship finals scheduled from 6:30pm on Saturday 11 February.

Full event and ticketing information can be found at www.worldshearingchamps.com.
