Te Wānanga o Raukawa primed for netball spectacle

Showcasing its top-class facilities with high-quality netballing talent, Te Wānanga o Raukawa is excited to be hosting the pre-season ANZ Premiership spectacle on March 10-12.

The Māori Tertiary Education Provider in Ōtaki, north of Wellington, will host many of the world’s best netballers at the pre-season event ahead of the inaugural season of Netball New Zealand’s new elite league, at its health and fitness facility, Ngā Purapura.

Te Wānanga o Raukawa is co-hosting the tournament with the Central Pulse under a partnership arrangement formalised in the latter part of 2016.

All six ANZ Premiership teams – the Central Pulse, SKYCITY Mystics, Northern Stars, Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic, Mainland Tactix and Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel, including management, officials and umpires, will be accommodated at the Te Wānanga o Raukawa campus in Ōtaki for four days.

“In accordance with protocol and tikanga there will be a pōwhiri for all teams and officials on Thursday afternoon and we look forward to extending our welcome to everyone,’’ Te Wānanga o Raukawa CEO Mereana Selby said.

A special request for Te Wānanga o Raukawa to lead some cultural activities for the teams, officials and umpires is being organised for the Thursday evening.

Netball fans will be treated to an action-packed tournament with 10 games in total being played during the Friday to Sunday event with each team playing at least three one hour games.
