SEE THE CITY THROUGH A CHILD’S EYES

Q Theatre is teaming up with a class of children from Newton Central School to create a site-specific performance that will have you seeing Auckland’s skyline from a whole new perspective. Running 8 – 10 March, LOOKOUT is a one-to-one experience that invites audiences into a conversation about their hopes and aspirations for the city as it grows and changes.
Love it or loathe it, the Civic Administration Building on the edge of Aotea Square is an Auckland landmark - and is set to become a symbol of our changing city. LOOKOUT will take audiences on a journey to the top of this iconic tower, which is poised for redevelopment into residential apartments. Before the developers move in and transform the site, LOOKOUT will challenge audiences to consider the city from all angles - taking place against one of the best panoramic views of the CBD. LOOKOUT is a chance to engage with a total stranger from the younger generation, and share in their vision, dreams and ideas for the city of the future.
LOOKOUT is the first in a series of projects that Q Theatre is undertaking this year to explore the changing nature of our city.
“With the population of the central city forecast to double in the next 30 years, this is a time of huge change for Auckland. Our urban landscape is growing and evolving in ways that creates challenges and opportunities for our future generations. With Q being at the heart of the CBD, we are excited to be a canvas for Aucklanders and artists to explore these conversations. Lookout is an unmissable opportunity to hear from the next generation of Aucklanders, who will live with the decisions we make about our city today” James Wilson, Q Theatre Chief Executive
LOOKOUT is created by London artist, curator and writer Andy Field who specialises in interactive experiences between strangers, in a variety of locations. His work challenges the participants to re-consider their relationship with others, and the world around them. Field’s work has been presented across the UK including the Southbank Centre (London), and the Natural History Museum (London), and internationally by organisations such as Abrons Arts Centre (New York), and the Festival Of Live Art (Melbourne). He is a regular contributor to publications including The Guardian, Exeunt, This Is Tomorrow, and co-director of the award-winning artist community Forest Fringe.
‘A hugely important and timely participatory piece that managed to achieve both a sense of the epic and the intimate.’ (Jackie Wylie, Artistic Director of the Arches, Glasgow)
