The beautifully shot video features choreography by the Artistic Director of the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Francesco Ventriglia, and performances from dancers Veronika Maritati and Massimo Margaria. Francesco trained at the Ballet School of La Scala, Milan, before joining the world-renowned ballet company of La Scala in 1997. During his dancing career he performed solo and principal roles in a wide range of repertoire and as a choreographer he has created works for leading dancers and for prestigious venues. Francesco and the dancers are about to begin The Royal New Zealand Ballet’s national tour of Two Ballets by Roland Petit: Carmen with L’Arlésienne which opens 16 February and features Massimo in one of the leading roles.

”I was delighted to be asked to choreograph something for Theia’s new video. Veronika, Massimo and I had lots of fun working with Theia. She’s a talented artist and we wish her all the best for the success of Champagne Supernova,” says Francesco Ventriglia.

Upon release ‘Champagne Supernova’ debuted at #1 on the NZ Heatseeker Singles chart and has had over 150k streams on Spotify in just a short couple of weeks. ‘Champagne Supernova’ follows on from Theia’s hit ‘Roam’, which has surpassed 4 million streams on Spotify and charted on Spotify charts in the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

The title of the song, ‘Champagne Supernova’, comes from the book ‘Champagne Supernovas’ about the 90s renegades of fashion, namely Alexander McQueen, Isabella Blow, Marc Jacobs and Kate Moss. Theia was drawn to the juxtaposition of the grandeur and glory; darkness and self-destruction – champagne being a symbol for elegance and supernova being a star that shines its brightest when it’s dying. The song is a way of dealing with inner turmoil or fighting your inner demons - whatever they may be.
