Feminist Theatre Co-lab
to Premiere at NZ Fringe Festival this
weekend
Longtime creative collaborators Henrietta Bollinger and Zoe Higgins bring the premiere of their latest work, 26 Cats Destroy The Patriarchy, to the BATS stage this Sunday evening at 6.30pm as part of the NZ Fringe Festival.
26 Cats Destroy The Patriarchy follows the personal and political clashes of three generations of New Zealand women in one house. It’s a play for an era where women’s lib has given way to #everydaysexism, and consciousness raising takes place on tumblr.
It explores the places where three generations connect...or don't.
It examines what it’s meant to hold your own as a woman over the last 80 years ...and the ways in which we succeed and fail as women to find a common feminist heritage.
Zoe Higgins, the show's director, is enthusiastic about the collaborative nature of the work. "It's our first production together in the same country after two previous collaborations over Skype. 26 Cats is a play that explores generational difference and working with talented actors between 16 and 67 has been just amazing. I'd love to draw an audience from several generations and spark conversations."
"It has been humbling to see everyone's commitment to a whim I had," says the play's writer, Henrietta. "I'm very excited to see my first BATS show."
26 Cats Destroy The Patriarchy opens this Sunday. It's on 19 - 23 February at 6.30pm on the Propeller Stage.
