Vintage Harvard Plane on Show at Air Tattoo

VINTAGE HARVARD PLANE ON SHOW AT AIR TATTOO

The grand old lady of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, North American Harvard NZ1015, has had a makeover taking her back to her original glory in time for this weekend’s Air Tattoo.

Having been restored and repainted to its original 1942 state, Harvard 15 now wears the same wartime camouflage it would have had when it was rolled out of the factory.

Flight Lieutenant Stuart Anderson has led the restoration that has utilised the skills of many dedicated RNZAF personnel and civilian contractors at RNZAF Base Ohakea. It has been a challenging, but incredibly rewarding process.

“It took three and a half years to take the aircraft apart and make sure it met the civilian specifications. The decision to go with the camouflage scheme is significant in that it was important for us to pay homage to the wartime history of the aircraft,” FTLT Stuart Anderson said.

The Harvard can be viewed at the 2017 Air Tattoo at Ohakea this weekend.

The air show will highlight RNZAF and international militaries in air and ground displays over the two day event demonstrating the capability of aircraft and personnel.

Tickets are limited and are on sale now through Ticketek.
