The Doc Edge International Film Festival (Doc Edge) is elated to do an early announcement of several luminaires of the documentary world participating in the 11thannual Screen Edge Forum. For ten years, the Forum has been an essential part of the Doc Edge Festival, bringing together local and international filmmakers in a lively atmosphere of debate and idea sharing. Each year the Forum has attracted some of the globe’s leading film practitioners to share their wealth of knowledge and this year is no exception.
The much lauded Roger
Ross Williams is in this year’s line-up. Williams
is the first African American Director to win an Academy
Award®. His film, Music by
Prudence, won the Academy Award® for Best
Documentary Short in 2010. His previous films,
God Loves Uganda was shortlisted,
and most recently, Life Animated, a
finalist for Best Documentary at the Oscars®. Williams
serves on the Board of Governors for the Academy of Motion
Pictures Arts and Sciences, and the Alumni advisory board of
the Sundance Institute. Williams will deliver a key-note
address and speak on how to develop a more inclusive and
representative industry.
Renowned and leading transmedia practitioner, Alexandre Brachet, joins the international posse. For the last 10 years, his documentary production company Upian has pioneered web and interactive documentaries. Their projects include Thanatorama (2007), Gaza-Sderot (2008), and Do Not Track (2015) which has reached audiences of more than 1.8 Million viewers. His last project was How to Make a Ken Loach film? More leading practitioners attending the forum include:-
Hollie Fifer, An Australian documentary
maker whose feature film, The
Opposition caused controversy, and was
prevented from screening in 2016 due to court action.
Together with David Bigio Q.C., they will
explore When Subjects Go
Rogue.
Amy Halpin, Director
of Filmmaker Services at the International Documentary
Association (IDA), a U.S. organisation which administers
over 8 million dollars in philanthropic funding for
independent documentaries, will participate in Doc Pitch and
the Forum as a panellist.
Ravi Bajbai,
Recently appointed as a prestigious International Centre For
Journalists Knight Fellow and former Multimedia Editor of
The Hindustan Times, India’s largest English news daily,
works with pressrooms to reinvent their coverage of critical
news. He will lead a discission about Fake
News.
