Six illustrators explore their hopes and fears for Aotearoa's future in a free pop-up exhibition at New Lynn Station
A new pop-up and pocket art exhibition has appeared at New Lynn Station, offering the public free postcards of each artwork to take home with them.
Revolver: Te Ao Tūroa will feature
brand new works from Ant Sang, t.wei, Vasanti Unka, Nathan
Foon, Jem Yoshioka and Jane Park, revolving over six weeks
until the end of June. The exhibition explores what the
future holds for Aotearoa.
"Seven years ago, none of the buildings that make up New Lynn Station were built, the average price of a three-bedroom house in Auckland was $500,000, and the idea of a reality TV star becoming president of the United States was fantasy," says exhibition producer, Hayden Eastmond-Mein.
"Change can be as rapid as it can be unpredictable, but one thing is certain – change is inevitable. For this exhibition, we gave six of New Zealand's best illustrators free licence to imagine a future Aotearoa. Will we rise to the global and domestic challenges we face, or is the time ahead dark and dystopian?" Eastmond-Mein added.
Revolver is part of Satellites – a series of exhibitions, performances and unexpected encounters popping up across Auckland's suburbs, showcasing Aotearoa’s contemporary Asian artists. Satellites returns for its second year with the support of Auckland Council.
