Dead End Derby are seeking new skaters to join
them in one of the most successful leagues in New
Zealand
Women seeking a new, fun and challenging
sport are being encouraged to try roller derby.
Training begins on Sunday 4th June 4-6pm at Avonside Girls High with an open skate session. Coaches will be on hand to help and support people as they learn the skills necessary to be a safe and effective team player. The course will run for about 16 weeks before graduates join the league, once they have passed their minimum skills test.
Fresh meat coach Schizjophrenic (Jo Bensemann) explains "Roller derby is being part of an empowering family where you are constantly learning and surprising yourself. Women of all shapes, sizes ages and different levels of fitness have a role to play. Our aim is to make sure that people are safe but also see how much they are improving each week."
Recent graduates agree. Crazy Cat Lady said that the best thing about completing fresh meat was that she progressed to the League with some great friends and she also learnt perseverance as well as improving her skating skills.
The cost for the open skate session is $5 per person (to help cover venue hire) and $5 to hire gear.
With league skaters, officials (skating and non-skating), recreational skaters and junior derby skaters (for ages 8-17) there is a place in our league for everyone!
