Rotary
Club of Auckland presents
World Press Photo
Exhibition
1st - 30th July 2017, Auckland
The prestigious World Press Photo Exhibition returns to Smith and Caughey’s Auckland this July, bringing together a breath-taking collection of the globe’s best press images, offering a striking perspective of the world we live in.
The
2017 Photo Contest drew entries from around the world: 5,034
photographers from 126 countries submitted 80,408 images.
The jury gave prizes in eight categories to 45 photographers
from 25 countries.
Winning one of the highly sought after
prizes in this year’s contest is New Zealand-born
photographer Robin Hammond for his striking portrait of a
Sudanese woman battling mental health issues. Hammond is the
recipient of numerous international awards and has dedicated
his career to documenting human rights and development
issues around the world through long-term photographic
projects.
Honouring the skill and creativity of photo journalists, the World Press Photo Exhibition features a wide variety of images capturing unbelievable moments, stunning landscapes, intimate relationships, and global issues. The images are accompanied by illuminating captions, unlocking an insight into the current state of affairs of our world.
This year’s exhibition captures everything from police violence in the USA and Zika virus in Brazil, to the effects of war in Iraq and pollution in the waters of the Canary Islands.
Rotary Club of Auckland are proudly bringing this
respected exhibition back to Auckland, with all profits
going towards their supported charities. www.aucklandrotary.org.nz
