BAFTA Award Winner's Play WEED Hits Circa Theatre
BAFTA Award Winning NZ writer Anthony McCartens’ play WEED hits Circa Theatre
Billionaire businessman Richard Branson recently hit the headlines suggesting that NZ farmers around should forget expanding the dairy industry and start growing cannabis to survive. Little did he know this was a concept already entertained by a famous NZ author almost two decades previous.
BAFTA award winning NZ playwright Anthony McCartens’ (The Theory Of Everything) smash hit comedy WEED will return to Circa Theatre in July directed by Ross Jolly.
This must see Kiwi comedy classic, played to capacity houses and was the toast of the Taranaki Festival.
It’s the 90s…. Farming is struggling and a mortgagee sale looms. So Henry and Jack develop a desperate and dangerous, cunning plan. Aided by a young woman, Terry and hapless nephew Hugh the partners in crime decide to go for green and beat the bankers by growing marijuana as a cash crop.
Will this joint venture just go to pot, or will it save the farm?
McCarten tickles our funny bone as his typical Kiwi characters valiantly strive to beat the system and win the day!
An all-star cast of Gavin Rutherford (All My Sons) Andrew Foster (Hound of the Baskervilles) Simon Leary (A Servant To Two Masters) and Bronwyn Turei (TV’s Go Girl’s, La Caza Azul) hit the stage this July.
Guarenteed to deliver a hillirious night out don’t miss this delightful, comedy classic.
