The Talanoa Series presents diverse Pacific playwrights supported by Auckland Council
Four Pacific plays from the 2016 Talanoa series are being published in an anthology by Little Island Press Ltd, supported by Auckland Council.
Little Island Press will launch the anthology and run interactive public programmes at the Avondale, Waitākere Central, Ōtara and Māngere Town Centre Library in the second half of June. There will be an invite only launch at Te Oro on Thursday 08 June 2017.
The anthology is a fresh collection of plays by five talented Auckland based playwrights. Leki Jackson-Bourke collaborated with 'Amanaki Prescott-Faletau for 'Inky Pinky Ponky', Louise Tu'u wrote ”Gaga: the unmentionable”, Vela Manusaute created 'My Name is PILITOME' and lastly, Lolo Fonua wrote 'Sai ē'e Reunion'. These Pacific playwrights offer a young and refreshingly perspective to the theatre community.
PIPA graduate Lolo Fonua's 'Sai ēe Reunion,' is about a Tongan born and raised character who comes to Auckland and experiences a whole new world. Fonua says "For me, publishing my work is opening a door for fellow aspiring pacific authors I'm hoping other Tongan playwrights and authors speak up and pursue their passion. My play is fun and Tongan themed with plenty of humour. Sometimes you just need a laugh in life, without forgetting about the values and morals that ground you."
The official Talanoa Series launch is on Thursday 08 June 2017 at Te Oro, invitation only. The Talanoa series will be available for purchase post launch at retail stores.
