MAGIC LINEUP FOR APO MUSICAL CONCERT
Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Taryn Fiebig and Phoebe Hurst will delight music and theatre lovers in Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s Magic of the Musicals
From the chutzpah of Chicago to the enduring beauty of Rodgers and Hammerstein’sSouth Pacific, the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) and a trio of Australasian singing stars present Magic of the Musicals at the Auckland Town Hall this August.
Two internationally lauded and versatile singers, New Zealand bass-baritone Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Australian soprano Taryn Fiebig, are both making very welcome returns to Auckland.
They will be joined by Christchurch musician and actress Phoebe Hurst who wowed audiences in Auckland Theatre Company’s hugely successful That Bloody Woman punk rock opera about Kate Sheppard.
The trio will combine their magnificent voices with the full force of the APO and the Freemasons New Zealand Opera Chorus. The set list, which will play like a “very best of”, includes All that Jazz, I Dreamed a Dream, Music of the Night, Memory, Oh! What a Beautiful Morning and You’ll Never Walk Alone, among many others.
New Zealand born Teddy Tahu Rhodes has rapidly established an international career on both the opera stage and concert platform. He has performed with some of the world’s foremost opera companies including the San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, New York’s Metropolitan Opera, the Hamburg State Opera, Munich’s Bavarian State Opera and Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
Recent seasons include Don Giovanni, Tosca, South Pacific, The King and I, Sweeney Todd and concert tour, From Broadway to La Scala. His awards include an ARIA, two Helpmann Awards, a Limelight Award, a Green Room Award plus an MO Award (all Australia).

Award-winning soprano Taryn Fiebig is one of Australia’s
most popular and versatile artists. She has performed with
all the major Australian opera companies and
internationally, for the Edinburgh Festival, in the UK with
the English Chamber Orchestra and for BBC Radio 4. A musical
theatre highlight was over 200 performances as Eliza
Dolittle in Opera Australia’s National Tour of My Fair
Lady.
Christchurch native Phoebe Hurst is a graduate
of Hagley Theatre Company and Toi Whakaari: New Zealand
Drama School. She is also an accomplished contemporary
singer and musician, having released two solo EPs, performed
at the Homegrown Music Festival and was listed as a
semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition
2016.
Magic of the Musicals will be under the baton of dynamic Australian conductor Vanessa Scammell. With full symphonic arrangements of songs from some of the most loved shows, from Broadway to the West End, Magic of the Musicals will be a delightful and enchanted evening.
