NZRL search for new Kiwis Assistant Coach
New Zealand Rugby League has begun the search for a new Kiwis assistant coach to replace Steve McNamara, who has been appointed head coach of Super League club Les Catalans.
McNamara came to Auckland last year to join the Vodafone Warriors as an assistant coach and was later brought into the Kiwis’ coaching staff by David Kidwell.
“I’ve loved my time working with the Vodafone Warriors and the Kiwis but the opportunity to take up a head coaching role has suddenly become available,” he said.
“I thank the New Zealand Rugby League for giving me the opportunity to work with the Kiwis and wish the team all the best for the Rugby League World Cup.”
Kiwis Rugby League World Cup Campaign Manager Shane Richardson said they weren’t far off announcing another assistant coach to support Kiwis Coach David Kidwell.
"He is an experienced coach who will add experience to the overall team, so we will now just reopen the process to ensure David has the support he needs," he said.
NZRL would like to thank Steve for his contribution, and realises that a head coaching role and an opportunity to be closer to his family who are based in the UK is too good an opportunity to turn down.
