Massive Line up for Monster Energy Jossi Wells Invitational

Massive Line up for Monster Energy Jossi Wells Invitational at Cardrona

Olympic & X Games gold medallists will line up alongside other stars of skiing & snowboarding for the 2017 Monster Energy Jossi Wells Invitational this September. The Invitational returns to Cardrona for the second year, following 2016’s successful inaugural event.

Confirmed ski athletes include X Games gold medallists Tom Wallisch and Bobby Brown, as well as last year’s winner James “Woodsy” Woods who won the X Games Big Air gold medal last season in Aspen.

The snowboard side of the competition includes Sochi Olympic Slopestyle gold medallist Sage Kotsenburg & Hailey Langland, the first woman to land a double cork in competition when she won Snowboard Big Air at the Aspen X Games in January. They will be joined by 2016/17 FIS Slopestyle World Tour winner Red Gerard, & last year’s Invitational winners Spencer O’Brien and Matty Cox.

The big name internationals will compete alongside some of New Zealand’s best talent in skiers Beau-James Wells, Jackson Wells, Finn Bilous and Margaux Hackett, and snowboarders Carlos Garcia Knight, Tiarn Collins and Zoi Sadowski-Synnott.

“I’m honoured to once again host the Invitational,” says Jossi. “The second year running we have a heavy lineup of riders from all around the world, coming together for a week of greatness.”

“We also have a livestream this year so everyone around the world can check out the show. JWI Round Two is going to go off!” he says.

Last year’s Invitational was a highlight of the 2016 winter season at Cardrona, with athletes from all over the world putting down big tricks on what was dubbed “the best jump in the world”. The Cardrona Big Air jump for this year’s event will be 90ft of air time from take-off to landing.

Spectators can view all the action for free from the Base Area at the Lounge or the Noodle Bar, while skiers & snowboarders can head to the main spectator area on Skyline Ridge.

Like last year, the athletes will all have an Aotearoa adventure experience, enjoying some of the region’s more thrill-seeking activities like Highlands Motorpark, Wake Wanaka, Skyline Luge and AJ Hackett Bungy. This year Jossi is also adding a skate jam, which will be held in the Wanaka Skate Park the day after Big Air finals.

Jossi’s sponsors Monster Energy & Dragon Alliance are supporting the event.

“Monster Energy is excited to again support the Jossi Wells Invitational. This epic event sees some of the sport’s best riders, like Sage Kotsenburg, James Woods and many more, all run the iconic M-claw logo as they look to take on the Monster Big Air jump. The stage is set and we’re looking forward to another great New Zealand event,” says Tim Ryder, Monster Energy Marketing Director – Oceania.
