South Auckland Pacific Young People Share Their Stories

South Auckland Pacific young people will have an opportunity to tell their heart-warming stories of triumph and tribulations at the MyStory event in Otara today, an event hosted by SouthSeas Healthcare Trust, in collaboration with the Office of the Children's Commissioner.

Children's Commissioner, Judge Andrew Becroft says the opportunities are endless. "I am looking forward to the focus of the day and being able to listen to the stories of young people from South Auckland."

"Our Office has a large role to play in advocating for the interests and wellbeing of children and young people, and a forum like this enables us to hear what is important to young people, directly from them. We are delighted to be able to co-host this event with SouthSeas Healthcare."

SouthSeas Healthcare Chief Executive Silao Vaisola-Sefo says the MyStory event will further strengthen the framework developed by members of the community, to provide young people with a tool to share their stories.

"This is the important part, so we are able to respond to stories shared by our young people and use their stories to create a movement based on issues facing young people in South Auckland today."

"We are looking forward to the level of collaboration we will have with our partners and key organisations who have a strong focus on young people. They will also have the opportunity to hear about the progress of MyStory and the work undertaken to date."

"We are deeply honoured to have passionate young people who are willing to share their stories, and this is integral for the development of the MyStory framework. We would like to see more of our young people in South Auckland jumping on the MyStory wagon and become a part of this event," says Silao.

"Young people bring fresh ideas and different perspectives into designing any programme directed towards them. MyStory will be an innovative way to get more young people to open up and talk about their successes and challenges in life."

"We definitely need more young people to be part of MyStory. We are also appreciative of our partners and key agencies working with us in supporting this event, to give young people a chance to share their personal stories in a safe place."

The MyStory event will conclude in a celebratory dinner to commemorate SouthSeas Healthcare Trust's 18th anniversary, since its inception as a clinic based in the Otara Recreational Centre.
