stellar* Band Together Again for March New Zealand Shows
stellar* Band Together Again for March New Zealand Shows
Legendary kiwi favourites, stellar* have today announced their first shows together in eight years! The multi award-winning group has just confirmed two March 2018 shows in Auckland (Tuning Fork, Friday 9 March) and Wellington (San Fran, Saturday 10 March) to follow their summer festival touring route.
This announcement follows their performance at the Vodafone NZ Music Awardslast week, playing the legendary hit 'Maxine' as a tribute to NZ Music Hall of Fame inductee, Sharon O’Neill.
stellar* first burst on the scene with five radio hits in 18 months - 'Violent', 'What You Do (Bastard)', 'Undone', 'Every Girl', and 'Part of Me' - all reflecting the unique blend of rock and electronica on 1999's Mix album.
Their reputation as innovative hit makers was embedded with 'All It Takes', 'Taken' and 'Star' off 2001's Magic Line album, and 'For A While' (feat. Andy Lovegrove) and 'Whiplash' off 2006's Something Like Strangers, their third and final studio album.
They became Sony Music NZ's highest selling Kiwi band, collecting eight NZ Music Awards along the way. All three albums charted within the top 10 of the NZ Album Chart, securing their status as a classic mainstay in the New Zealand music scene. In October 2010, stellar* released an 18-track Best Of album, featuring a new single, 'So Alive'.

The band still features the same line-up that released their first single on Sony Music NZ, 'What You Do (Bastard)', nearly twenty years ago in 1998. That’s Boh Runga(vocals, guitar), Andrew Maclaren (drums, programming), Kurt Shanks (bass) and Chris van de Geer (guitar).
“We had a ball putting together our version of Maxine for the awards, and we’ve been blown away by everyone’s feedback," says Boh Runga of their VNZMA tribute performance for Sharon O'Neill. "We’re going to keep the fun rolling this summer with a short burst of dates. Can't wait to play to everyone again."
