TVNZ Renews FIA Formula E Championship Deal

TVNZ Renews FIA Formula E Championship Deal

TVNZ is bringing sports fans the world’s first fully-electric single-seater racing series, the FIA Formula E Championship, again for the 2017/18 season.

Following the success of the 2016/17 season with viewers, TVNZ has renewed its agreement with the electric street racing series. The renewal ensures local audiences will be able to follow New Zealander Mitch Evans, as he vies for his first podium finish with Panasonic Jaguar Racing this season.

To be broadcast across TVNZ 1, TVNZ DUKE and TVNZ OnDemand, Formula E forms part of TVNZ’s ongoing commitment to free-to-air sporting events.

Cate Slater, TVNZ Director of Content said “We know that New Zealanders are passionate about live sport and we’re excited to bring racing fans the Formula E championship again this year - fully free-to-air. Formula E is fast becoming the biggest motorsport championship in the world. With New Zealand driver Mitch Evans behind the wheel, viewers will have more reason than ever to get behind this future-focused sport.”

The first two rounds of the 2017/18 season will air on TVNZ 1 and DUKE on December 2 and 3. Racing will continue in prime time and day time slots on DUKE. TVNZ OnDemand will live stream races and also host additional highlights and content, showcasing a cross-platform commitment to Formula E.

Ali Russell, Formula E Director of Media & Business Development, said “Formula E is a truly international and accessible championship, reaching fans on a global scale - including the most ardent followers in New Zealand. Just weeks after Jaguar announced Mitch Evans will partner Formula E champion Nelson Piquet Jr. - we’re delighted to renew our partnership with TVNZ. We look forward to continue bringing fans the excitement and exhilaration of electric street racing for this coming season.”

Mitch Evans, Panasonic Jaguar Racing driver, said “It’s fantastic to see my home nation getting behind Formula E. It’s growing quickly, and it's great that New Zealand will be able to get behind the sport and the Panasonic Jaguar Racing team. I’m really excited to get back on the grid for the season-opener in Hong Kong later this year and hope New Zealand will be supporting.”
