All wildcards confirmed for ASB Classic

All wildcards confirmed for ASB Classic

New Zealand’s most promising player, Jade Lewis, has been awarded a main draw wildcard in to next weeks’ ASB Classic. This will be the second time the 19-year-old will play in the main draw at the Auckland event after receiving one this year.

The four wildcards into the qualifying tournament have also been granted to kiwi players, Paige Hourigan, Sacha Jones, Erin Routliffe and Jo Carswell.

Tournament Director, Karl Budge says, it’s always great to have our local players involved in the tournament and this year we have five getting the opportunity and experience to play at the highest level.

Lewis played a hard-fought match against superstar Venus Williams this year before falling 76 62.

Lewis has a long family history in the game, she’s the niece of Chris Lewis who reached the final of Wimbledon in 1983 against John McEnroe. Her father David and uncle Mark also played Davis Cup for New Zealand.

The ASB Classic will span for two weeks; the women's tournament kicking off on January 1st to 6th followed by the men’s tournament from January 8th to 13th. Tickets will be available for purchase through Ticketek. You can purchase tickets either online, over the phone on (0800 842 538) or in person at one of the agencies listed on the event website.
