Australian television personality enters Kathmandu Coast to Coast

Former MasterChef turned Australian television personality Hayden Quinn is the latest to enter the Kathmandu Coast to Coast to knock the event off his bucket list while also hoping to gain some bragging rights over mates.

Quinn, who released two successful cookbooks following his stint on MasterChef in 2011 is now a well-known Australian after presenting a number of television programmes including Family Food Fight that appears on New Zealand television.

The former professional surf life saver and Australian 2012 Cleo Bachelor of the Year now divides his time between hitting the waves, the kitchen, aboard a plane and time in front of the camera or behind the lens as he also juggles life with partner American model Jax Raynor.

“Me and my mate Mark "Andos" Anderson are doing the two day tandem together,” he said. “We have done a lot of different adventure stuff and this was on the bucket list. We had some other friends doing it last year so we thought we would give it a crack.”

Included in those friends was Australia Olympic triathlete Courtney Atkinson who made the top 10 in the World Championship longest day in his first attempt at the event who Quinn says made it sound like an “amazing challenge and a lot of fun.”

“The main motivation is to see how well we can go, be a bit competitive and give us a reason for training plus the race is in such an amazing part of the world; it’s going to be epic.”

Quinn and Anderson worked together as lifeguards for many years but hope they don’t have to put their swimming skills to the test.
“He (Anderson) is a world class ocean paddler and all-around athlete,” Quinn said. “It’s also great that I will have my Dad Martin and his mate Simon coming along as our handlers to assist us through the race. We will also be supported by Richard Greer and the lads at Team Complete Performance as well.”

Quinn, who says he has done a number of adventure and ocean ski races and triathlons including the well-known Coolangatta Gold event on Australia’s Gold Coast is looking forward to the Coast to Coast providing “a lot of fun, some good memories, friendly competition and bragging rights over our other mates that are doing it.”

The Kathmandu Coast to Coast will be at full capacity for the first time in almost a decade when the two day event kicks off on Friday the 9th of February with 950 competitors taking on the 243 journey from Kumara Beach on the West Coast that finishes in the Christchurch eastern seaside suburb of New Brighton on Saturday the 10th.
