Gardens Magic 'Lucky Dip' concert revealed
Chicago Smoke Shop (30 year reunion) and
Julia Deans
The worst kept secret of the Summer is out! Wellington City Council's Gardens Magic ‘Lucky Dip’ concert on Saturday 20th of January sees two legendary acts take the Soundshell stage.
It's been 30 years since Aotearoa's favourite rhythm & blues band Chicago Smoke Shop trod the boards in their hometown. So don't miss this one Wellington!
Get ready for a funky goodtime. A ten-piece, horn-driven rhythm & blues extravaganza featuring original band members – frontman, songwriter Darren Watson with powerhouse drummer Richard Te One. Other Smoke Shop alumni are back too - Aaron Te One on rhythm guitar, and special guest harmonica virtuoso Terry Casey, without doubt NZ's finest blues harp player and the man who founded Smoke Shop with Watson in 1985.
That's not all the great news - the amazing Julia Deans finally returns to Wellington as the opening act!
From honey-sweet falsetto to menacing growl, the voice of Julia Deans has offered light and shade to a variety of musical endeavours over the years. From fronting Fur Patrol’s muscular pop-rock to her electro-pop stylings with Tiki Taane; from co-conspirator with renowned supergroup The Adults to sultry chanteuse in Silo Theatre's production BREL; Deans has never shied from adding new strings to her bow.
FREE fun for all the family. Event details:
