NorthWrite 2018: Moving your Writing Forward

This year's NorthWrite conference provides a dynamic programme with something for everyone. Aimed at activating participants' drive and energy for their writing, it features a diverse range of workshops and presentations led by prominent New Zealand writers and representatives from the publishing industry. Topics include diversifying your writing, generating ideas, turning ideas into story, setting goals, writing dialogue, creating new stories from old, writing creative non-fiction and memoir and discussions with publishers and an agent.

The line-up of award-winning writers reflects a broad range of talents, perspectives and experience. Playwright and scriptwriter Kathryn Burnett has over twenty years’ experience in film and television. Novelist and playwright, Whiti Hereaka has been involved with Te Papa Tupu, an incubator programme for young Maori writers. She has represented New Zealand and been a Guest of Honour at international writing events. Author, screen writer, editor and teacher, Janice Marriott is the recipient of the 2018 Storylines Margaret Mahy Medal for her distinguished contribution to New Zealand children’s literature.

Publishers, Jenny Nagle and Christine Dale (One Tree House) will provide publishing insights, based on many years’ experience in the industry, while literary agent, Vicki Marsdon, will explain the job of an agent.

Registrations are open for the event, which commences with a panel discussion on the evening of Saturday 10th March and continues with workshops and presentations on Sunday 11th March. The venue is NorthTec’s Raumanga campus.
