Mt Albert & Pt Chevalier to play curtain-raiser for Warriors

May 21, 2018

The Round 8 SAS Fox Memorial Premiership blockbuster between the Mt Albert Lions and Pt Chevalier Pirates will form part of this Saturday’s match day at Mount Smart Stadium.

The clash of the ladder-leading Pirates and third-placed Lions will kick off at 5.10pm and be shown live on SKY Sport 2, serving as the curtain-raiser to the Vodafone Warriors’ NRL match against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Earlier in the day the Auckland Rugby League will deliver a livestreamed double header on aucklandleague.co.nz, with the second division match between Te Atatu and Manukau kicking off at 12.20pm, followed by Papakura v Otahuhu in the SAS Fox Memorial Premiership at 2.30pm.

ARL general manager Greg Whaiapu said it was another exciting opportunity to promote the local game.

“It’s great to see grassroots footy being part of the match day experience at the Warriors,” Whaiapu said.

“Along with our extensive livestream coverage of matches this year, it’s another way of promoting our game to fans in Auckland and across New Zealand.

“The form of both Pt Chevalier and Mt Albert so far this year suggests it will be a thrilling battle at Mount Smart Stadium.”
