Local Songstress Shares Skills with Next Generation
A Dunedin mentorship programme for young musicians will this year be headed by local songwriter Nadia Reid. In recent years Reid has become one of New Zealand’s most evocative and profound young songwriters, and this year she will take a break from touring and curate a mentorship programme with The Amped Music Project. Facilitators of the AMPED project will include local and national industry professionals.
Administered by the Dunedin Fringe Arts Trust, The Amped Music Project (previously The Chicks Project) is a free 7-week initiative open to local high school students consisting of a series of workshops and gigs geared towards kick starting their musical careers.
Reid said she is “thrilled to be involved with the AMPED project this year. The mentoring I received as a high school student was both beneficial and highly memorable. In the music industry, there are no textbooks, so sometimes, attempting to have a career in music can be daunting and confusing. Teaming the younger generation up with working professional musicians is hugely valuable on so many levels. I feel very privileged to have taken on this role, especially in my hometown. I look forward to meeting all the young musicians who decide to apply for this programme.”
The 2018 Amped Music
Project kicks off this month, with the final gig (Ampathon)
