Ashburton Female Art Awards 2019
The Ashburton Art Gallery in partnership with the Zonta Club of Ashburton are welcoming entries to the Zonta Ashburton Female Art Award 2019 (ZAFAA19). Now in its third year, the award is open to all Canterbury-based emerging and mid-career female artists and exists to acknowledge excellence in fine arts and assist in the development of growing careers. ZAFAA committee member Jane Hurley say “the awards are an exciting opportunity for Zonta to empower women through art and to raise the public profile of women artists.”
The 2019 Premier Award recipient will not only win a cash prize of $3,500 but also the special opportunity to hold a solo exhibition at the Gallery the following year. The winner will benefit greatly from a fully curated and professionally installed exhibition which will advance their public profile and increase their exhibition history. Gallery curator Shirin Khosraviani says “there is much more than money to be gained from award exhibitions such as ZAFAA. The winner will have the incredible opportunity to develop a new body of work for public exhibition and have the support of a passionate institution at their side.”
Alongside the Premier Award there is a Young Generation Award for female artists between the ages of 16 and 20. This cash award of $500 will acknowledge outstanding potential in visual art practice with the aim to encourage further creative endeavours, an outcome well suited to Zonta – a global organisation of women working together to advance the status of women worldwide.
Entries will be shortlisted by a panel of judges comprised of three art sector professionals. The awards will be announced by the judges on the opening night on 1st March 2019.
ZAFAA19 entry forms are now available through the Gallery’s website, www.ashburtonartgallery.org.nz
