Rudimental and Orbital to headline Splore Festival’s 20th anniversary event

Two heavyweights of the electronica music scene will appear at Splore Festival next February.

Rudimental, has become one the UK’s biggest acts with a soaring international profile based on a string of hits including Feel the Love, Waiting All Night, These Days and Lay it on Me.

Their much anticipated third album is due out late October 2018. Rudimental’s Splore 2019 set will feature a DJ, trumpet player and vocalist.

And it will be Orbital’s first ever show in New Zealand. The iconic group, made up of brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll, has crafted some of the most innovative yet accessible electronic music since their inception in 1989 during the halcyon days of Acid House.

Orbital truly burst onto the international scene with their headline appearance at the 1994 Glastonbury Festival. Q Magazine classed it as one of the top 50 gigs of all time, and in 2002 included Orbital in their list of "50 Bands to See Before You Die".
Crucially, intensive TV broadcasting from the Glastonbury Festival in 1994 meant that Orbital's set reached a huge audience. Glastonbury’s Michael Eavis noted that the Orbital gig marked dance music's appearance on the mainstream agenda. "What was previously underground made it on to one of the big stages, and there was no going back from there”.
Orbital delivers an improvisational element to live electronic music as the brothers mix and sequence their tracks on the fly, wearing their trademark head-mounted torches behind banks of equipment.
Also making a long-awaited New Zealand debut at Splore 2019 is the UK reggae/dancehall legend, David Rodigan MBE. Dubbed the “Gentleman Rudeboy”, Rodigan has for 40 years championed Jamaican music via a number of London’s radio stations (currently broadcasting on BBC 1Xtra). In 2012 he was awarded an MBE for services to broadcasting and in the same year took home the World Cup Clash Re-Set title in Queens NYC.
A Rodigan DJ set is both a history lesson and a high energy celebration of reggae, dancehall, rocksteady and drum n bass.

Also announced for Splore 2019 are Australian one man orchestra and controversial winner of The Voice, Sam Perry , Burning Man and Glastonbury party ravers, Fleetmac Wood, and Brooklyn, NYC duo The Illustrious Blacks.

Local live acts announced include Princess Chelsea, The Beths, Jess B, TALI (Live) and Ijebu Pleasure Club with local DJs confirmed include K2K, Lady Flic, Benny Salvador, A wb, Linda T, Coolhandluke, Corysco and Mac Mylo (featuring Pharoah Swami).

They join already announced acts - The Dub Pistols, The Correspondents, Haiku Hands and Courtesy.

Further international and local acts will be announced in October.
