Lift Off Festival – Headline acts announced

Two outstanding Kiwi bands have been announced as the headline acts for the Lift Off Abel Tasman Festival on Labour Weekend 2018.

Tāwhiri Funk will headline the Lift Off Festival event in Motueka on Saturday 20th October, while Cornerstone Roots will be amping up the beach party vibe at the Balloons On The Beach event at Kaiteriteri on Sunday 21st October.

Balloons on the Beach at world famous Kaiteriteri, gateway to the Abel Tasman, takes place just 8 days before Royal couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visit the Abel Tasman on their international tour of Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.

Event manager Johny O’Donnell said: “We’re delighted to bring two great Kiwi bands to the Lift Off Abel Tasman Festival. They will bring great energy and a party vibe to our inaugural two day festival.”

Cornerstone Roots - Cornerstone Roots are a contemporary roots band hailing from Raglan. The 6 piece group, which includes four family members, have released three critically acclaimed albums: Soul Revolution, Free Yourself and Future is Now, plus four EPs (One Fine Day, Forward Movement, Free Man and Summer Haze).

Local tourism operators are behind the Lift Off Abel Tasman Festival featuring two days of aerial adventure and fun over Labour Weekend 2018. Lift Off Abel Tasman will showcase Motueka as a world class adventure aviation hub and celebrate the amazing beauty of the Nelson Tasman region.

This brand new event will include spectacular hot air balloon night glows, sky diving exhibitions (and a ‘halo’ (high altitude) skydive New Zealand record attempt), scenic flights, fireworks, music, entertainment, food and more.

Earlybird ticket prices to end on 1st October

Members of the public are being urged to book their tickets before 1st October, to take advantage of earlybird prices.

Ticket prices after 1st October:
Motueka
Adult $15 (up from earlybird $10)
Family Pass $10 (up from earlybird $7.50 pp)

Kaiteriteri
Adult $25 (up from earlybird $20)
Family Pass $15 (remains the same)
Stay at Kaiteriteri Recreation Reserve, pay $20 per adult and children go free!

Community gets behind Lift Off Abel Tasman

The festival has wide ranging support from Tasman District Council, Nelson Regional Development Agency, Tasman Bay Promotions Association, Our Town Motueka, Nelson Airport , Sport Tasman and tourism operators including Wilsons Abel Tasman, Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle, AquaTaxi, Skydive Abel Tasman, Waka Abel Tasman and Abel Tasman Canyoning.

Profits from Lift Off Abel Tasman will go directly back into the community, with 50 per cent being set aside for future local events and the remaining 50 per cent going to local charitable causes. Representatives from the four charities that will benefit spoke at the launch:

• Tasman Bay Guardians
• Abel Tasman Birdsong Trust
• Project Janszoon
