Wozniacki wins in Beijing
Monday 8 October
Caroline Wozniacki has claimed her third WTA tour title of the season, taking out the China Open in Beijing overnight (NZT).
The world number 2 showed her class in the win over Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova 6-3, 6-3 in the final, securing the Beijing title a second time in her career having previously lifted the crown back in 2010.
The 2018 Australian Open champion did not drop a set across five matches throughout the tournament, and in the final hit 12 winners and four out of eight break point chances to take out the match in 87 minutes.
The win at the high ranking WTA Premier Mandatory tournament gives Wozniacki her 30th WTA Singles title, becoming just the second player this season to win both a Grand Slam and a Premier Mandatory event after Naomi Osaka.
Wozniacki will now head to Singapore to defend her title at the upcoming WTA Finals, featuring the top eight qualifying players of the season.
The win cements an impressive year for the Danish star which saw her win her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, returning her to the world number one position exactly six years after last holding the top spot.
Wozniacki also took out the title in Eastbourne in 2018, racking up her 600th career match win.
Wozniacki has already confirmed she'll be returning to the ASB Classic in 2019, where she's looking to go one better than her finals appearance in 2018.
