The WRLD Is Coming to Gisborne

The WRLD Is Coming to Gisborne

MORE ACTS ADDED AS DAY-SPLIT ANNOUNCED FOR RHYTHM AND VINES 2018

The world is well and truly coming to Gisborne this New Year's with the announcement of 50 more international and local acts who will feature at New Zealand's longest running music festival. Second release acts include Juice WRLD, Smokepurpp, Dean Lewis, DVSN, SG Lewis, Friction, Jack Beats, James Zabiela, Paces, LA Women, SWIDT and loads more. This brings the total to over 100 acts heading to Gisborne for the 16th edition of the 3 day music and camping festival, joining announced acts include Vince Staples, Wilkinson Live, Tchami x Malaa, Flight Facilities, and Duke Dumont.

All eyes are on Juice WRLD. Since releasing his debut album Goodbye & Good Riddance in May, the Chicago rapper has continued to nab headlines by knocking Drake & Kanye West off the top spot on Spotify, scoring a number of solid features with the likes of Lil Uzi Vert, and some epic freestyles to boot. American rapper, singer and songwriter will be embarking on his first adventure down under to headline the first night of Rhythm and Vines on December 29. Breakout hits include “Lucid Dreams”, All Girls are the Same”, and “Legends”, with Lucid Dreams being one of the most streamed songs globally of 2018 (currently 493,000,000 streams).

Chicago born and Miami-based rapper and producer Smokepurpp headlines the hip hop billing for December 30. One of the original Soundcloud rappers, his lo-fi rap and trap has garnered millions of streams globally. Pineiro released his debut commercial mixtape Deadstar on September 28, 2017, and the mixtape peaked at number 42 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Brighton raised, multi award-winning Friction is one of the most revered and recognised names in bass music today. Having risen steadily through the ranks since the early 00's as arguably the most adept and ferocious DJ/producer in the scene. Friction brings the noise to Waiohika on December 30.

Another global hitmaker-of-the-year coming to Gisborne is singer songwriter Dean Lewis. The Sydney songwriter is responsible for the viral hit 'Be Alright', which is currently making waves worldwide amassing over 200,000,000 streams. His single “Waves” in 2017 featured on Suits, Riverdale and Grey’s Anatomy. This will be his debut performance in New Zealand, playing at 6pm on New Year’s Eve.

SG Lewis’s remix of Jessie Ware’s “You & I (Forever)” attracted the attention of Ware and Disclosure’s label, PMR Records, who then signed him. The British artist immediately made a mark with the wild success of his debut EP, Shivers, which featured several notable vocalists like JP Cooper and Louis Mattrs. The 23 year-old Liverpool producer and songwriter will be bringing his emotive, atmospheric performance to Gisborne on New Year’s Eve.

Toronto-based alternative R&B act DVSN head to Gisborne on December 29. Consisting of producer Paul Jefferies (aka Nineteen85) and vocalist Daniel Daley, they specialise in narcotic slow jams featuring sexually frank lyrics, often in falsetto. Their debut album peaked at number 17 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Jack Beats are an electronic music duo from London. Award winning DJs in their own right (in a previous life Niall was DJ Plus One from Scratch Perverts while Ben was a founder member of The Mixologists), the british turntablists will feature on the Vapo Cellar Stage on New Year’s Eve.

British DJ James Zabiela is one of dance music's premiere technical wizards, and he turns CDJs into a bona fide instrument in a way that only a handful of DJs have ever been able to. (He's such an expert, in fact, that he advises Pioneer on their products, and takes prototypes out for test runs.)

Paces sound is truly unique. Mixing influences from Jersey Club, Future Beats, and Garage, he’s crafted a style which is undeniably his own but could sit at home amongst any of his musical idols. Think Cashmere Cat, Ta-Ku, Branchez etc. Catch Paces on December 30th as part of the George FM Presents night in the Cellar Stage.

And as with every year, opening and headlining slots are filled by some of New Zealand established and up and coming musicians. New additions include Ian Munro, SWIDT, N eo, Mild Orange, LA Women and Mini Simmons who have all had big years locally and/or abroad. Over 60 Kiwi acts will perform at Rhythm and Vines this year.

Rhythm and Vines have also formed a partnership with LIFELINE introducing a number of fundraising initiatives at the festival that will go towards the helpline's efforts in supporting people in need.
