Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New
Zealand’s support network bolstered by Bridgestone’s
contribution
Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand
(LBC) can support the increased number of patients and
families across the country thanks to the generosity and
support of Bridgestone customers.
Bridgestone raised more than $37,000 through its ‘Put a Cap On It’ campaign, urging New Zealanders to support and raise awareness for the cause through purchasing specially designed teal valve caps.
LBC’s CEO Peter Fergusson, says the funds raised through Bridgestone’s network will make a significant difference to New Zealanders facing blood cancer.
“Six Kiwis every day, adults and children, will receive the news that will turn their lives upside down overnight. LBC wants to make sure that they never have to face their blood cancer journey alone,” Mr Fergusson said.
LBC provides a range of support services, and saw a record number of referrals in 2018.
The team of Support Services Coordinators stepped up and throughout the year, LBC managed to double its support groups throughout the country. A goal for 2019 is to significantly increase LBC’s presence and raise greater awareness in Maori and Pacific Island communities.
“These diseases can strike anyone of any age and at any time. We need to be ready to support them wherever they are and Bridgestone’s customers’ amazing support means we can do this,” Mr Fergusson added.
Bridgestone has partnered with LBC since 2017 and has raised funds and awareness through the Shave for a Cure, Step Up Sky Tower Stair Challenge and Stadium Climb Challenge events, as well as through its retail network.
“Bridgestone is passionate about the incredible work of Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand, and this $30,000 from our customers shows our network is equally passionate,” Bridgestone Director of New Zealand Business, John Staples said.
“Our ongoing support of LBC forms a core part of our local initiatives under Bridgestone’s global ‘Our Way to Serve’ CSR platform. As a business, we are committed to making a meaningful contribution to society and our partnership with LBC is a clear demonstration of how we are helping to enhance the lives of New Zealanders facing blood cancer,” he added.
Blood cancers are a significant form of cancer in New Zealand, with an estimated 21,000 people currently living with a blood cancer or related condition, and a further six diagnosed each day.
