NZ screenwriter holds workshop

Ever wanted to get a handle on writing for the screen?

Kathryn Burnett (Fresh, Eggs, The Cul de Sac, Shelved) has to be one of NZ’s busiest screenwriters and she’s sharing everything she knows with aspiring screenwriters during her intensive 2-day workshop this March.

Not only is Burnett a recipient of 2018 Advanced Seed Funding she’s currently working on a tele-feature, a Canadian co-production and is on the writing team for an HBO series that's in development.

Last year her feature film project went into development with producer Andrew Adamson (Shrek) and she was a speaker at the World Conference of Screenwriters in Berlin.

She says Beginner’s Guide to Screenwriting workshop (2 & 3 March) is a fast and furious introduction to the art and craft of screenwriting. And that getting some professional guidance early on can be instrumental in setting people off in the right direction.

“There are thousands of blogs and books on screenwriting in the world but not many offer the nuts and bolts info about where you start, how to build a story for screen, whether an idea is right for cinema and what to expect when you’ve finished writing. Participants often tell me how they love being able to ask their burning questions in person.”

Burnett created the Beginner’s Guide to Screenwriting Workshop in 2012 to share her comprehensive knowledge gleaned over 20 years as a professional screenwriter.
