Media Release: For Immediate
Release
Bringing dreams to life, creating empathy and putting a lens to the issues of the day – documentary has immense power to inspire audiences, and New Zealand documentary initiative Loading Docs is proud to announce a sixth collection of short documentaries that will awaken imaginations and invite us all to see our world in a new light.
Unified by the theme of power, a diverse line-up of new and experienced filmmakers launch their documentaries on crowdfunding platform BOOSTED, March 27.
Teams have 23 days to reach or exceed their goal of $2500 in order to unlock the commitment of $5500 from Loading Docs - plus a post-production package from Department of Post – and put their documentaries into production.
From a master waka carver to a female leader’s fight to save ancestral land, eight uplifting documentaries make up Loading Docs 2019. Other highlights include unique access to iconic New Zealanders such as world champion freediver William Trubridge and the man behind the ‘Nek Minnit’ meme.
Winner of NZ On Air Best Web Series in 2017, Loading Docs enters its sixth consecutive year fostering storytellers and producing important Kiwi stories with a focus shift from micro three-minute documentaries to projects of up to eight minutes in duration. Documentary makers will now have the opportunity to invite audiences to dive deeper into stories, while still focusing on the beauty that is short documentary.
Support Loading Docs and the diverse documentary voices by connecting with the BOOSTED page to help the filmmakers in their mission to offer audiences a place to celebrate real New Zealand stories in unity, from each corner of our land.
The founders of Loading Docs, Julia Parnell and Anna Jackson, embark enthusiastically on another year excited to shepherd these powerful and thought-provoking short films into the world.
“Year on year our expectations are exceeded by the special filmmaking talent we select. They turn original ideas into truly emotive cinematic journeys and with 5.6 million views of the collection to date, the interest our past shorts have attracted provides this year’s filmmakers a huge worldwide audience to connect with.” – Julia Parnell (Founder/Executive Producer)
With support from principal funder NZ On Air, along with the New Zealand Film Commission and Te Māngai Pāho, Loading Docs will fund, create and distribute eight digital shorts in 2019, alongside a programme of professional and creative development.
