NZCB Waikato and local carpentry apprentices donate their work to Cancer Society

NZ Certified Builders (NZCB) Waikato has donated four brand new, high-quality park benches, built by local Waikato apprentices as part of NZCB’s Apprentice Challenge competition, to the Hamilton Cancer Society.

The NZ Cancer Society is an independent charity that is 100% community funded. The charity’s volunteers, supporters, stakeholders and staff, are committed to reducing the impact of cancer on individuals and the community, and share the long term goal of preventing and managing cancer in the future.

NZCB CEO, Grant Florence, said most New Zealanders will have some experience of cancer – either personally or through a relative or friend. NZCB values the incredible support the Cancer Society offers to New Zealanders and understands the importance of this service.

“Donating the park benches that were crafted in the Apprentice Challenge is a way for our NZCB members to give something back and acknowledge our appreciation.

“All of the regional NZCB districts are proud to be active members of the community, not only through the many building jobs our members carry out for families and businesses, but also through the community events and charity initiatives we are involved with,” says Grant Florence.

The Waikato NZCB Apprentice Challenge, in association with ITM, took place in early April, where talented local apprentices were given a building plan, materials and eight hours to each construct a park bench. A total of 93 park benches were built at regional events throughout the country, and NZCB has been donating all the finished products to Cancer Societies and other community groups across New Zealand.
