Orchestras Central Presents “Central Celebrates”
Orchestras Central presents a full weekend of orchestral experiences at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts, University of Waikato from 26 - 28 August 2022. Featuring the Trust Waikato Symphony Orchestra, Youth Orchestra Waikato, Rusty Player Orchestra, and professional group the OCT Ensemble, along with collaborators from the University of Waikato, The Rauhii Project and Waikato Community School of Music.
There will be something for everyone, whether you want to sit in on an open rehearsal and celebrate youth music making in a side-by -side showcase, enjoy a family-friendly concert, experience an evening of familiar orchestral music interspersed with New Zealand poetry, or dig out an old instrument and play in the relaxed environment of the Rusty Player Orchestra. You will even be able to discover how young composers develop a new piece of music, and hear it live for the first time.
On Nature Inspired to be performed by the OCT Ensemble:
“Copland’s prize-winning music illustrates the story of a pioneer celebration in America’s Pennsylvania hills during the early 1800s. Carnival of the Animals is a brilliantly imaginative and often humorous fantasy of fourteen short pieces depicting a range of animals (some human!). With two short works by NZ composer Michael Williams, the music is beautifully paired with evocative New Zealand poetry setting the scene of our own place.” Rupert D’Cruze, Conductor
Come for one event or come for all. We would love to see you!
