Today FM’s Tova O’Brien Sits Down With Ukraine PresidentVolodymyr Zelensky In New Zealand-exclusive Interview

Today FM’s Tova O’Brien has made the journey to Ukraine for a New Zealand-exclusive interview with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

O’Brien travelled to Kyiv late last week and sat down with President Zelensky overnight (NZT). She was joined by Today FM’s Head of Video Production Simon Morrow.

The interview comes after spending a number of days moving around Ukraine speaking with local residents and Kiwis involved in the war and humanitarian effort.

In the extraordinary and wide-ranging interview, the Ukrainian President talks openly and passionately about New Zealand’s role in this war, his gratitude for its support and why it’s so important the country does more to help.

The full interview will air next Wednesday 17 August during the Tova breakfast show on Today FM. A documentary has also been filmed to air on Prime TV soon after.

Tova O’Brien, still in Ukraine, says: “Being on-the-ground here is a gut punch - seeing and hearing first hand the devastation has been critical to understanding why we can’t let our attention waver from this war and why New Zealand needs to do more.

“Zelensky has issued a challenge to our country, our government and our Prime Minister - it should not be ignored. I’m looking forward to getting home and getting it on the air so we can discuss the concerns raised,” says O’Brien.

Today FM is available on FM frequencies throughout New Zealand, including 90.2FM in Auckland, 98.9FM in Wellington and 95.3FM in Christchurch. The interview will also be available to listen to via MediaWorks’ streaming app rova.

The assignment was assisted by Public Interest Journalism funded through NZ On Air.
