Nominations Open For Ngā Tohu Matariki O Te Tau 2023 (Matariki Awards 2023)
Ko wai ngā whetū kānapanapa o te hapori? Who are the stars who made a difference in our communities?
Whakaata Māori is calling for nominations for the prestigious Ngā Tohu o Matariki o Te Tau 2023, (Matariki Awards 2023).
Nominations opened last Friday 27 January2023.
Attended by luminaries of Aotearoa, New Zealand, the annual awards honour those who shine on our communities.
The awards recognise and celebrate Māori excellence across the fields of education, arts and entertainment, health and science, sports, business and innovation, community, te reo Māori me ngā tikanga Māori and young achievers.
Whakaata Māori seeks nominations of individuals of all ages and organisations who go above and beyond.
Past winners of Ngā Tohu Matariki have included Tā Tīmoti Kāretu, Witi Ihimaera, Dame Lisa Carrington, Rob Ruha, Te Rōpū Whakakaupapa Urutā, Six60, Te Māhurehure Marae, Emeritus Professor Whatarangi Winiata, and others!
Nominations cover the period 1 January to 31 December 2022, across all public, corporate, not-for-profit and social enterprise sectors in nine categories.
The nine award categories are:
1. Hiwaiterangi - Young Achievers
2. Tipuānuku - Education
3. Tipuārangi - Arts and Entertainment
4. Waitī – Health and Science
5. Ururangi - Sport
6. Waitā - Business and Innovation
7. Waipunarangi - Te Reo Māori me ngā Tikanga
8. Matariki - Community
9. Te Huihuinga o Matariki for Lifetime Achievement Award
Nominations can be made by completing and submitting the nomination form on the Whakaata Māori website, or using this link: https://www.whakaatamaori.co.nz/matariki-awards-2023
Please note that submissions must include all of the information requested in the nomination form. Incomplete nomination forms will not be considered.
Nominations close at 5.00 PM, Monday 27 February 2023.
