Waitangi Day Events At The National Library

The National Library is hosting a range of events to commemorate Waitangi Day this year.

Commemorate this Waitangi Day by visiting He Tohu. The He Tohu exhibition, on the ground floor of the library on Molesworth Street in Wellington, will be open from 9am to 5pm on Monday 6 February 2023. He Tohu houses Te Tiriti o Waitangi, He Whakaputanga – the 1835 Declaration of Independence and the 1893 Women’s Suffrage Petition.

He Tohu is a joint exhibition by Archives New Zealand and the National Library. Entry is free.

On Waitangi Day, you can also take part in a te reo Māori pronunciation workshop (12 midday), go on a bilingual tour (11am and 1pm), dress up in historical costumes, make your own treaty, or join us to create a huge timeline of events that have shaped Aotearoa (10am and 3pm).

Join our kaiārahi for 30-minute tours of this multi-award-winning exhibition or take a self-guided audio tour around the ground floor of the National Library.

Tour times for Monday 6 February:

  • From 10am until 4pm — Tours begin on the hour and half hour
  • 11am and 1pm — Bilingual tours
  • Audio tours are available in 11 languages including NZ sign language
