Ihug Unveils New Computing Scholarships
Ihug has announced the launch of two new scholarships to support and assist students of computing at Auckland's UNITEC.
The Ihug and UNITEC Scholarships Programme provides two annual grants of $4,000 each, to students completing a 3-year Batchelor of Computing Systems degree.
As well as cash grants, the scholarships also offer students an opportunity to undertake project work at Ihug. (Bachelor of Computing Systems degree students are required to complete a 400-hour project to prove themselves in a real industry environment.)
The first recipients of the new scholarship are Alex Henderson and Densial Henderson. Both have been among the top performers in their UNITEC class.
Ihug Director Tim Wood says Alex and Densial have already set up in the Ihug offices and are now working alongside the Ihug team.
"We are providing workspace and support so the guys can spend the next few months working on an e-commerce initiative," he says.
"There is no doubt the valuable industry experience they gain now will strengthen their chances once they complete the degree and enter the job market."
Mr Wood says Ihug is delighted to be involved in the new scholarships. The company has a strong commitment to support young and talented newcomers to the industry.
