Mallard Season Opened – Now For Rangiora!

“A symbolic slaying of a mallard duck outside the (College of Education) home of the NCEA in Christchurch took place yesterday (Thursday 3 May the College’s Open Day) as a protest against the NCEA,” said Concerned Teachers spokesperson Peter Calvert.

“Now the Mallard season has other targets – the first is Rangiora High School’s Open Evening next Monday 7 May. We will encourage Rangiora parents to think very carefully before enrolling at Rangiora High, because of the Board’s strong support for the NCEA. More ducks will suffer but it will be in a good cause!”

“Mr Mallard must understand the consequences of pushing on with a flawed NCEA. Our aim is to ensure he realises he himself will be a sitting duck at the next election, if he experiments with our children. This is just the first shot in our NCEA is a Dead Mallard campaign,” said Mr Calvert.

“The College of Education was targeted because it had been in our view ‘feathering its nest’ with the NCEA. They have got many thousands of dollars from so called training of teachers for the NCEA – training which even the Ministry has said was disappointing. Yet the trainers were apparently paid bonuses for their disappointing effort,“ said Mr Calvert. “We aimed to bring this to the community’s attention by a symbolic mallard slaying and its canine retrieval outside the College.”

“Our next target is in the country - Rangiora High School’s Open Evening next Monday 7 May. Rangiora High School Principal Peter Allen is the ‘father of the NCEA’ and our group will be protesting outside the school from 4.30 on Monday,” said Mr Calvert. “We believe the Rangiora High School community should be targeted for the radical untrialled experiment they have brought on all other State schools. The Black Report shows that the NCEA should be trialled.” Ends:
