Missing
“Government’s overall strategy for Industry Training is very positive, however, ‘Moving Forward’ leaves some important issues unanswered,” said John Blakey, Chair of the Industry Training Federation (ITF).
Moving Forward was released this evening at a function co-hosted by Government, Business NZ, the CTU and the ITF.
”Overall, this report is positive. Increasing funding, recognising the role ITOs play in defining future skill needs, and relaxing the restriction around higher-level qualifications all enable ITOs to work more effectively with industry,” said Mr Blakey.
“The decision to put Industry Training into the Tertiary Education Commission alongside polytechnics, PTEs, and universities is a clear statement about the value of, and future for, Industry Training,” he said.
“What’s missing from this report is plan to deal with the significant variations in funding – the different rates ITOs are paid, and the difference in unit funding between ITOs and tertiary institutions,” said Mr Blakey.
