Ratification Process To Begin

Post Primary Teachers Association members will be called on to vote on their proposed Collective Employment Agreement from the middle of this week.

Following consultation with regional chairs on Saturday, PPTA executive decided that the meetings should be held as early as possible.

PPTA president Jen McCutcheon said the meetings would be held between Thursday, May 30 and Thursday, June 6.

“We had a very fruitful and useful discussion at our special executive meeting on the weekend. We now have to move on and let our members decide whether they accept this agreement or not,” Mrs McCutcheon said.

“We know our members are eager to vote on this proposed collective agreement so there is no point holding it up. For logistical purposes the earliest they could be held was from this Thursday,” Mrs McCutcheon said.

“Each region will decide how to hold their meetings, but the options are regional meetings with all teachers attending or branch meetings at individual schools.”

The proposed collective agreement includes a 5.5 percent payrise over three years, a $3500 National Certificate of Educational Achievement allowance spread over three years, guaranteed non-contact time, the establishment up of an independently chaired Ministerial Taskforce on Secondary Teachers’ Remuneration as well as a number of other items.
