New Chair for Leadership Study Centre

THE CENTRE FOR THE STUDY OF LEADERSHIP

New Chair for Leadership Study Centre

Newspaper industry executive Lincoln Gould has been appointed chairman of the board of the Centre of the Study of Leadership, a joint venture between the New Zealand College of Management and Victoria University of Wellington.

The Centre has been operating for four years and it is affiliated with a network of leadership research centres around the world. Its main roles are executive development and research. Executive development is offered through the portfolios of programmes of the NZCM and Victoria University.

Research has focussed on quantitative questionnaire-based leadership research, as well as purely qualitative phenomenological research. The Centre offers doctoral scholarships and has conducted national leadership surveys of managers across New Zealand.

The appointment of Gould to the Chair of the Joint Venture comes at a time when the Centre is now broadening its focus and will be seeking new funding arrangements within the next two years.

Director of the Centre, Dr. Ken Parry said: “We are delighted that Lincoln could take on this role as he has strong links with both the university and the commercial sector. The Centre has established itself both within the New Zealand corporate scene and academically and we now wish to expand its role and to grow the involvement of the business community in relation to our activities. Government policy on both sides of the Tasman is that the business community should shoulder more of the burden of funding research into business phenomena. Thus, the Centre for the Study of Leadership is a great vehicle with which to achieve these outcomes.”

Earlier this year Gould became the Chief Executive of the Newspaper Publishers Association after three years as Director of the Graduate School of Business & Government at Victoria.

The previous Chairman of the Centre was former Employers Federation Chief Executive Steve Marshall who is now the Director of the International Labour Organisation in Geneva.
