Apprenticeship Training Support for Polytechnic

[incorporating Music and Audio Institute of NZ, Auckland and Christchurch; and Mountain Education Centre of NZ, Wanaka]

PRESS RELEASE

Apprenticeship Training Support for Polytechnic

The West Coast Development Trust announced today in Greymouth the approval of a $10,000 grant to support motor industry apprentices studying through Tai Poutini Polytechnic. This grant will allow the apprentices to complete the theoretical requirements of their training.

Following an approach to the Trust from Mr Roger Devlin, a local auto electrician who was aware of real problems in getting apprentices through their courses, an innovative solution was found involving the co-operation of motor trade industry training representatives and Tai Poutini Polytechnic. The grant will provide additional theoretical training for automotive industry staff. Roger Devlin said “I’m really pleased to see the Trust helping in such a positive and practical way. This will really help our apprentices.”

Tai Poutini Polytechnic Chief Executive, Don Campbell, said “the Polytechnic is really pleased to be able to respond to industry needs and welcomed the Trust’s contribution to much needed training.”

Trust Chief Executive, Mike Trousselot, said “the Trust has identified education as a key driver in the economy and welcomed the opportunity to support this industry and Polytechnic partnership.”

Apprentices who have a formal training agreement with their employer and are working towards a formal automotive qualification will be eligible to enrol for the weekly training sessions, which will be provided over and above the standard apprenticeship curriculum.

The Trust’s funding will allow eligible participants to take advantage of this additional training at no cost.
