Even more NZers take advantage of tertiary ed

Even more New Zealanders take advantage of tertiary education

Figures released today that show that between July 2001 and July 2002 the number of students involved in Ministry of Education funded tertiary education increased by 11.3%. Enrolments increased at polytechnics (6.4%) and universities (1.4%) between July 2001 and July 2002.

Industry Training Organisations provided even more good news in tertiary education participation in New Zealand. The number of trainees registered at 30 June 2002 compared with 30 June 2001 increased by a startling 18%. This represents an extra 11,850 New Zealanders training .

“ITOs are doing their part to get more people engaged in workplace-based learning, develop more productive workplaces, a more productive economy, and a more inclusive knowledge society”, said Darel Hall Executive Director of the Industry Training Federation.

“A highly skilled workforce engaged in continuous learning and adaptable to change is an essential foundation for the economic and social well-being of New Zealand. Industry Training is an integral part of that vision to transform New Zealand into a knowledge society, and will continue to work with our public and private education partners to that end.
