Important Milestones Reached for Implementation of the Performance-Based Research Fund
Nominations closed last Friday for membership of the Peer Review Panels being established to support the implementation of the Performance-Based Research Fund (PBRF). Nominations for panel membership opened on 4 December 2002.
Over 550 nominations were received from academics and experienced researchers within New Zealand and from overseas. “The quality of the nominations is outstanding and there will be some difficult decisions to make,” said Dr West, Chair of the Tertiary Education Commission.
Chairs of the peer review panels will be announced later this month with full panel membership publicly announced in mid March.
Dr West also announced that “Professor Paul Callaghan, the Alan MacDiarmid Professor of Physical Sciences at Victoria University of Wellington, has accepted the role of Chair of the Moderation Panel for the peer review process.”
“This is an extremely positive start to the Tertiary
Education Commission’s task of implementing the Fund during
2003. We still have a long way to go to successfully
implement the PBRF but it is extremely encouraging that such
high quality nominees have come forward to assist us in that
goal” said Dr West.
