Tertiary Education Commission E Learning Conference wise investment

The just completed two day TEC Conference on ‘E Learning and Industry Training: A Strategic Approach’ was a wise investment according to the Industry Training Federation.

The opening speech and announcements by the Associate Minister (Tertiary Education) Steve Maharey on funding and the focus on collaboration between Government, Tertiary Education Organisations, and the work place were well received.

“ITOs constantly seek new ways to engage learners and to deliver the training that enterprises need”, said Darel Hall Executive Director of the Industry Training Federation. “E-Learning strategies are an important component of the methods that will assist ITOs to reach the target of 250,000 industry trainees by 2007”.

“E-learning, in all its forms will be an integral part of all future workplace learning”, said Barbara Johnsen General Manager of the Seafood Industry Training Organisation.

“Already in some companies, use of E-learning and ICT in the workplace means the boundaries between learning and work has become blurred. ITOs have an important role to play in providing the infrastructure to support E-learning in workplaces. In addition, ITOs will join in E-learning collaborations to drive innovation in learning and in the workplace”.

"This conference provided the ITO community with a kaleidoscope of practical E-learning applications - including international linkages to expert practitioners”, commented Janet Lane, Chief Executive of the NZ Motor Industry Training Organisation.

“The messages were compelling - emphasising the significance of a robust and dynamic e-learning strategy along with shared and collaborative networks to support and enhance the e-learning investments. These themes support the leadership model that ITOs are keen to develop and emulate for their specific industries."
