International Student Forum, 9 - 10 May 2003
MEDIA RELEASE FROM THE AOTEAROA TERTIARY STUDENTS'
ASSOCIATION
14 April 2003
The International Student Forum and the Tertiary Education Strategy
The International Student Forum to be held in Nelson on 9 - 10 May will provide stakeholders in the sector with an opportunity to consider the relationship between the needs of international students and the government's tertiary education strategy.
The forum organiser, the Aotearoa Tertiary Students' Association (ATSA), noted that the conference's workshops link directly into the forth objective of the tertiary strategy - 'Sustainable growth of export education capability centred on a reputation for quality teaching and pastoral care'.
"The need for providers to maintain and improve their ability to meet the needs of foreign fee paying students is central to the forum's focus," ATSA President Julie Pettett stated today. "Our members believe that one of the keys to ensuring the long term sustainable development of export education is to continually monitor and improve the educational and non-academic resources provided to international students."
"The forum is an opportunity for academic, support and administrative staff to network and discuss the issues surrounding the export education sector," Pettett said. "The fact that international students will also participate directly in the workshops will give other stakeholders a unique opportunity to hear directly from learners about their needs."
