‘Continuation of New Zealand study linkage welcomed by Education New Zealand’
2/7/03: For immediate general release.
The recent Skilled Immigration Policy announcement has been welcomed by Education New Zealand, the organisation established to facilitate the promotion of New Zealand as a study destination and assist educational institutions in showcasing their capabilities.
‘The proposed Skilled Immigration Policy is excellent news for international students who are either already in New Zealand, or who are contemplating an international education but have not yet decided on their destination’ says Robert Stevens, Chief Executive of Education New Zealand. ‘Most international students want to return home after their education. But a significant number would like to stay on in New Zealand, and contribute further to our country’.
The proposed policy continues the previous policy of advantaging those potential migrants that have received a New Zealand tertiary qualification.
‘Moving to a new country and a new culture can be extremely difficult, no matter what skills the migrant may have’ says Robert. ‘However, the migrant who has been successfully educated here has already proven that they can make the adjustment. They know how our country works, and where the opportunities are. They are ready to contribute from Day One. And as a fee-paying student, they have already made a positive contribution to New Zealand’.
‘We know that our education system is effective in providing a quality educational experience for thousands of international students. We are delighted that the Government continues to acknowledge that this educational experience is equally beneficial to those who would seek to become New Zealand citizens’.
